MLB Update: Jesse Crain stuns fans as he joins the Chicago White Sox
To Jesse Crain, the train always railed in one direction but now things seem different as his latest deal lands him in Chicago. The player, who never featured for any other club than the Minnesota Twins, is now a White Sox Bullpen member.
Crain joins the Chicago ball club on a three year deal and sustains his services in the Central region of the American League. Jesse will earn $13 million in his three year service period. He will avail $4 million on his first year and $4.5 million in the
other two years. The player joins a strengthened bullpen which includes Joaquin Benoit, Matt Guerrier and Scott Downs. With Jake Peavy looking to return to the starting rotation in the coming season, he may also join the bullpen for a limited time slot.
Crain will be expected to play against his former team and while the endeavour is considered a usual one that happens every year, he will eventually go up against a side he knows well. He was available to comment on the possibility. He talked about it on
a conference call to the press, recently.
"I don't know how it's going to be. It will be weird," Crain said.
"I've never been anywhere else. I'm good friends with a number of guys over there. They have an idea of what I do, and I have an idea of how they approach things. It will be fun, weird and interesting to face those guys so many times."
Pitching coach for the White Sox, Don Cooper, was available to comment on the player and his significance in the team. He had come out to talk about Jake Peavy’s speedy recovery and went on to talk about Crain’s role in the squad as well.
"You know, asking for my opinion right now, on Dec. 20, I'm going into it saying Jesse Crain, and this is just my thinking, he's going to be a valuable member of the bullpen late in the game," Don Cooper said.
"More than anything, what he gives us is not just another valuable piece, but a talented, flexible piece."
Jesse featured in 71 games for the twins, last season. He held 21 games in the process and struck out 62 hitters to account for his performance. He maintained an Earning runs Average of 3.04 and allowed 27 runs, in total. For the White Sox, their mission
to sign on bullpen players seems to have come to a close.
