MLB Update: MRI reports nothing wrong with wrist of Baltimore Orioles’ Derrek Lee
The Baltimore Orioles have a lot to be happy about today. The club recently got an MRI scan of one of their new players, Derrek Lee. The veteran baseman had a sore right wrist and they feared he might have broken it. However, the MRI report said there was
nothing to fear.
Lee is now looking forward to get into action in Spring Training as he’s yet to start playing this year. The O’s were pleased with the test results and the former Chicago Cubs player is getting ready to make his debut for his new club.
Lee had shown his wrist to a specialist earlier. The doctor sent him to get the MRI done. The problem in the end was reportedly rounded off to the off-season surgery on Lee’s thumb. Though the injuries were different, they may have a connection.
“We are not concerned about lingering effects,” Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said. “It seems to be a by-product of the wrist having been immobilised.”
The Orioles are not sure, but suspect that Lee’s problem is tendinitis. There is optimism in the air as the star’s supporters and club officials are hoping that he can be ready for action on
Opening Day.
“[We] can't really put a timetable on when he's going to get back in the flow of it,” manager Buck Showalter said after Baltimore's 2 – 1 loss to Boston, recently. “We’ll see. It’s kind of what we expected. Still, you like to hear back that the results are
what you think they're going to be and what you're hoping they're going to be.”
Lee played for both the Cubs and the Atlanta Braves last season. Even though his performance ended in a disappointing run, the first baseman believes he’s still got the aptitude to handle the situation in his new role as the club leader and motivator for
the young prospects in the side. The only thing to see now is how Lee does in this season.
