MLB Update: Washington Nationals’ pitcher, Stephen Strasburg making great progress in recovery
The Washington Nationals have well been on their way to building a refined side for the upcoming season. The team that made the headlines in the offseason period this winter has a chance to land a better result in the 2011 season in Major League Baseball.
Players in the squad have been boasted by the arrival of major player, Jayson Werth and the club is well in line for setting up the stage for young prospects to come out of minor leagues.
The Nationals have some of the best young stars in the squad and Bryce Harper is one of the young guns who have been talked of in recent days. Right Hand pitcher, Stephen Strasburg, however has been another rising talent in the squad. His last season crashed
out as he sustained an elbow injury. The rising star will not be expected to feature in the coming season till late next year.
Nevertheless, Strasburg is recovering well, so far. He has been faring well in his bid to return to fitness. Strasburg was able to communicate with a bunch of reporters on Monday Afternoon, through a conference call. He was able to explain the situation
surrounding his recuperating health.
"I'm making big strides with total body strength. (It's been three months since the surgery). Everything feels great and I'm just waiting for them to tell me when I could start throwing."
"Their job right now is to push me back and keep me at bay because it's hard," he said. "It's probably the longest time where I haven't been able to throw a baseball. So I trust in what Dr. (Lewis) Yocum says, the physical therapist says ...
because they have been through this before, so I'm doing what they tell me to do."
Strasburg wasn’t much active, last season. He has been injured for as long as three months but his short stint with the Nationals in 2010 saw him win 5 games and lose 3. In addition to that, he featured in 12 games, starting all encounters. The 22 year old
was impressive with the ball. He maintained a low Earning Runs Average of 2.91. He struck out 92 hitters in his reign and posted a high strikes per game ratio of 7.67. Washington will hope Strasburg makes his way out of injury in time, to compete for the 2011
league season.
