MLB Week 15 Power Rankings: An overview of the teams – Part 6
22. The Minnesota Twins have shown considerable improvement over the past week and thus have managed to jump four places from Number 26 in the ranking.
The Twins had a win-loss record of 17-37 on June 1 and were 16.5 games behind the top slot in the American League Central Division. Come July 18 and the Twins are 44-49 for the season with just five games behind leaders Cleveland Indians and just a whisker
away from the struggling Chicago White Sox.
In their previous ten outings, the Twins have managed seven wins and if they continue to perform consistently, the AL Central is up for a tough competition.
Joe Mauer is now fully fit after spending most of the first half on the disabled list. His form is vital if the Twins have to build a solid combination.
23. The Florida Marlins showed signs of improvement just when the first half of the season was on the verge of its end. They completed a four-game whitewash of the lowly ranked Houston Astros and it gave them good confidence.
The Marlins are currently placed at the bottom of the National League East Division and it is highly unlikely that they can make it to the top. In order to go top, the Marlins must get past the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves who are among the
top four teams in the Majors and this proposition seems unlikely.
Florida, however, should aim for a positive second half and experiment different combinations which may turn out to be useful for the next campaign.
24. The Los Angeles Dodgers are experiencing all sorts of problems, on and off the field. Their off the field problems have taken a toll on their on-field performances and this has been the reason why the Dodgers have not won a game since June 12 in which
their pitchers have allowed more than two runs.
Clayton Kershaw has been their sole hope this season at the mound and he has rallied the Dodgers to whatever position they are currently in.
Their last ten games have been even, winning five and losing as many. Their monotonous run thus far has landed them in a position where they are placed just above the last-placed San Diego Padres in the National League West Division. A few good games for
the Padres may see the Dodgers hit rock bottom in the NL West standings.
25. The Oakland Athletics have wasted their decent start to the season. After an impressive beginning, the Athletics could not sustain their thrust.
The A’s are currently placed at the bottom of the American League West Division with a win-loss trace of 42-54 thus far. Like their form, their previous ten games have been something less than ordinary too. With six losses in ten games, chances for recovery
from this stage are slim.
Josh Willingham has returned from the disabled list. He has scored the most home-runs and RBIs for the A’s and they would want him to hit form soon enough.
26. The San Diego Padres are ranked among the five weakest teams in the Majors this season. They have lived to this tag in the National League West Division where they are placed at the bottom as well.
The Padres have managed just two wins in their last ten encounters and it is high time that they give the young talent a chance to exhibit their skill at the big stage. There is nothing to lose!
