MLB World Series: Giants Batter Cliff Lee to Claim Game 1
It took quite a while for two specific teams to make it to the World Series, and it was veen more of a surprise to see those ball clubs progress to the final tournament. The Texas Rangers faced their rivals, the New York Yankees in the American League Championship
before they went through. For the west side champions, this was the first time they had ever progressed through the playoffs. Given the circumstances, the ball club was making history by doing something they had never done before.
The San Francisco Giants were the other team to progress through to the Major League World Series competition and it was an unexpected feature that highlighted the walk to the top circle. The side went into the National League Championship to face the favourites,
Philadelphia Phillies. Additionally, the team faced a tough squad with three acclaimed pitchers who had dominated the other teams, during the regular season. Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels were unsuccessful against the side and one of the reasons
they fell out, was due to some great hitting from Cody Ross.
The first match between the Giants and the Rangers began late Wednesday night and it pinned two great pitchers in major league baseball, against each other. Tim Lincecum of San Francisco was going up against Cliff Lee of Texas. The two goliaths matched up
to compete in the game.
The Giants were the team to prevail, nevertheless. Lee was bashed around the park by Freddy Sanchez, Buster Posey, Cody Ross and Aubrey Huff. Juan Uribe, later on, smashed a homer off Darren O’Day to slam Lee with a concession of 7 runs in 8 hits. Cliff
was present after the match to make comment on the game, he said "I was trying to make adjustments. I was up. I was down. I was in. I was out. I was trying to find it, and I was never really consistent with what I was doing."
For the Giants, this was a triumph and Freddy Sanchez thought it was a surprising one, he said "You never think you're going to have success against a pitcher like that. He's one of the best pitchers in the game, been unhittable in the postseason."
