MLB approves 12-player blockbuster deal between Toronto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins – MLB News
According to a leading sports website, Major League Baseball has approved the blockbuster deal between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Miami Marlins. It took slightly longer than the fans probably would have liked but the 12-players trade is finally a done
deal.
The source claimed that Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said Monday that he had no objection to the trade that will let the Blue Jays acquire infielder/outfielder Emilio Bonifacio, catcher John Buck and pitchers Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson. The icing on
the cake for Toronto will include the all star shortstop Jose Reyes from Miami for seven players.
"It is my conclusion that this transaction, involving established major leaguers and highly regarded young players and prospects, represents the exercise of plausible baseball judgment on the part of both clubs, does not violate any express rule of Major
League Baseball and does not otherwise warrant the exercise of any of my powers to prevent its completion," Selig said it a statement. "It is, of course, up to the clubs involved to make the case to their respective fans that this transaction makes sense and
enhances the competitive position of each, now or in the future."
Miami in return is expected to get pitchers Henderson Alvarez, Justin Nicolino and Anthony DeSclafani, catcher Jeff Mathis, outfielder Jake Marisnick and infielder Yunel Escobar with Adeiny Hechavarria as per the deal that was finalised between the two teams
last week.
In an effort to rebuild their batting line-up, the Blue Jays have also signed on free agent left fielder Melky Cabrera.
Cabrera was having a sensational time on the plate before he faced suspension on August 15 for a positive testosterone text. Cabrera’s former team San Francisco Giants went on to win the World Series title.
In an introductory press conference last week, Blue Jays’ General Manager Alex Anthopoulos said that he wanted to improve the team’s pitching rotation for the next season. Blue Jays had one of their worst seasons last year as they finished fourth on the
American League East Division with 73-89 record. It will be interesting if the 12-player mega deal can help put things back on a winning track.
