MLB owners join union, unanimously ratify Collective Bargaining Agreement -MLB Update
All 30 owners of all teams around Major League Baseball (MLB) have joined the MLB Players Association union hand in hand and announced the ratification of the newly passed Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which was passed by them two weeks ago.
The CBA was waiting updates from the franchise owners around the league, now which has properly been approved by the owners, which will now be ensuring labour peace in the American professional baseball league well through the 2016 regular season and 21
straight years since it has been renewed in due time without interruptions.
Other sports leagues around the nation like the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Hockey League (NHL), having faced such issued in the past few years which disrupted entire seasons.
The agreement was announced by the owners in a collective news conference in New York, New York, United States.
"I am very pleased that the Clubs have given their unanimous support of the new agreement," said Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. "Our sport has taken many significant strides over the past decade, and this agreement will allow us to continue to grow the
game."
With ensuring labour peace, Commissioner Selig believes that the popularity of the sport has also been boosted due to the continuation and consistency with which the league runs, keeping fans attached and in view.
"It's interesting to note that baseball's popularity, which has manifested in a myriad of ways, has been at its greatest in the last 15 or 16 years. One of the primary reasons, if not the primary reason, has been because of labour peace," Selig added.
Now that labour peace is certainly not an issue in the MLB anymore well through the 2016 regular season, fans are just hopeful that it will remain as such in the future after that as well due to the last season being the most anxious one with teams, players
and the league focusing on how to renew it.
The MLB continues to set standards in the world of sports, making it one that should be looked up to by the others that struggle at some moments.
