Is anyone else getting sick of teams like the Angels, Yankees, Red Sox, Mets and Cubs gobbling up every good player available on the market? You could even throw in the Tigers and Diamondbacks. I can't stand it, the playing field in the MLB is so uneven when teams like this get all star filled line ups and teams like the Twins, Athletics, Marlins and Rays have to rebuild year in and year out from within their own organization to try to compete. Baseball needs to restructure its rules so we get a parity driven league like the NFL.

  1. The MLB cannot support a Salary Cap because teams like the Rays, Marlins, Twins, etc cannot raise the needed money for a cap

    $2,697,392,597

thats the total payroll of all 30 MLB teams

if you break that down it comes out to $89.9 Million per team

only 13 teams in the MLB have a supported payroll of $90 Mill or more..so where is the extra money supposed to come from. with today's salaries you cannot have a cap under $100 Mill (only 11 teams can support that)

thats why the MLB has a luxury tax---the Robin Hood of the MLB ..until the MLB can restructure EVERYTHING, its the best and only solution

the next collective bargaining agreement wont be implemented until 2011 (in 2006 they signed a 5 year deal) so until then it is what it is

  2. I agree. MLB has no salary cap like say the NFL or the NBA, therefore they can pretty much go after whom ever they want.

Pretty much like the Dallas Cowboys of the 90's or the SF 49ers of the 80's. Those teams are known as dynasties because they didn't have a salary cap issue, they coyuld retain all the good players, and lure other good players with lucrative deals.

If MLB went to a salary cap, I think it would be a much more level playing field. Much like you have now in the NFL. The only thing that sucks about a salary cap, is that your favorite player might be traded or go to free agency for more money. Then what if you have his jersey, you gots to toss it. That's why I no longer buy jerseys of current NFL or NBA players.

  3. Even though those teams get "every good player on the market" you forget that the Devil Rays are doing very well with their own talent.  The Marlins also have a good core of players, at least 5-6 are near 20 hrs this season.  You also forget all the years the Cubs struggled and had to "rebuild year in and year out from within their own organization."  Sorry, but it seems to me that things are as fair as can be.  As far as the A's, I wouldn't mention them because they have traded away good talent, that is their own fault.

  4. It wont happen, especially when you have teams out there that are competing in small markets and lower payrolls.  A lot of the small market teams are terribly managed.  Look at the Pirates, they never try to rebuild, they are always trying to trade away the good players.  And there is a Profit-sharing policy in baseball, but teams like the Royals and Marlins do not use the money they get from it to sign players.

Yes, the big market teams have more money to spend and are at some advantage, but that doesn't always eqaute with winning championships.  Look at the yankees, they always have the highest payroll for the past 8 or so years, and how many championships do they have?  Last year the Rockies were in the WS.

  5. I agree 100%.  I am an Astros fan and it seems like every year we are having another "restructuring" year and even when we acquire someone, when we get them I am like "who?"  Roger Clemens only "graced us with his presence" because his family lives here and that was a choice HE made, not someone we were allowed toget.  It is very frustrating!!!!

  6. Baseball has always been like this..

And it's been proven before that money doesn't always buy the World Series...

If it did...the Yankees would win every year....

The Cardinals typically are in contention, year after year, and rarely buy superstars.. most of their talent comes from the farm system...

Good baseball doesn't come from prima-donna superstars, it comes from a team that plays well together, and is interested in winning ballgames, not personal stats......

  7. Ya know what. I'm getting sick and tired of people whinning that about this.

Complain and write letters to your favorite teams owner, and ask them why they refuse to spend any money on players. Ask them why they insist on making HUGE profits every year and give the fans back, nothing. Don't tell me your team is in two small of a market. Get out of the league if you can't roll with the big boys. And plus, If your owner has the money to buy a multi-million dollar american sports team, he can afford a 50-75million dollar payroll.

Salary caps have no place in baseball. Teams with high salary already pay huge amounts in the luxery tax every year. What are teams doing with this shared revenue I wonder? Shoving it in thier pockets, that's what.

Teams like Milwuakee, Minnesoda, Florida, Arizona seem to be able to content every few years, beacuse they draft and train thier players wisley. Then they trade them away for prospects, or lose them to free agency.

Then you have teams like Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Cincinati, Washington, and Baltimore, who refuse to spend more 10 dollars on a player and lose every year.

Lastley, the more people that live in a city, the more people there is to please. Don't try to tell me, the Pittsburgh Pirates, who put 15thousand people in the stands everynight, deserve the national recognition as a team that sells out evernight and puts 45 thousand in the stands everynight.

  8. its all about the moooooooney! some teams just don't have the money but can still kick but look at the Florida Marlins they have the lowest payroll, A-Rod could own the Marlins and yet they are legit contenders for the NL East. The Rays are fine where they are with roster as long as they have Aki and Longoria. Twins have issues with minor leaguers. Just because they have the stars don't mean they have the talent.

  9. you can't blame the big market teams.  They are the buyers, teams like the A's, O's, and Rays are the sellers.  They don't value their talent as much as they do money.  You can't forget this is a business especially to the owners of these clubs.  They don't like to hand out big contracts.

But you gotta appreciate temas like the Marlins and Rays. They know how to scout and develop talent.

  10. It is called a Salary Cap, end of story....it is why the NFL is the best market in America....post and PRINT it!

  11. If its so uneven how did the Marlins win the World Series in 2003 and how did the Rockies even get to the World Series last year...the bottom line is just because you have the most amazing team on paper that doesn't mean they are going to do anything on the field...take the Tigers from this year as an example or the Yankees for the past 7 years...I don't think baseball needs to restructure anything.

  12. hey if the teams have the money to get the good players they are going to get them before any others have a chance to. its too bad cuz not only am i a Red Sox fan i also like the Pirates too and they aren't doing so well and havent done well in a while.

  13. Yeah, sometimes I get a little tired of hearing that the Yankees, bought this guy and that guy.  And it's sort of the same with the Red Sox but no where near as bad.

I used to be a Yankees fan, but I switched to the Phillies for multiple reasons.  But one of the amin reasons was because they buy all of there good players.  And two players on the team was accused and proved guilty for steroids and the use of HGH.
