MLB top executive Joe Torre resigns in a pursuit of buying Los Angeles Dodgers – MLB News
Since the Major League Baseball authorities have started to receive bidding on the sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers due to bankruptcy protection, many top businessmen have come forward and showed their interest to buy the Californian based franchise.
Now, sources are reporting that former Los Angeles Dodgers’ manager and current executive vice president for baseball operations of MLB Joe Torre has resigned from his post in order to explore his options to buy the Dodgers franchise.
It has also been reported that Torre, who will be joining hands with well-known Los Angeles shopping centre developer Rick Caruso, the president and CEO of Caruso Affiliated, for a possible partnership to purchase the Dodgers.
After the resignation, Torre issued a statement stating for Caruso’s experience and his credentials regarding late decision of buying the Dodgers’ franchise.
Torre said, “I have great confidence in Rick Caruso's unique qualifications and his ability to lead a successful bid for the Dodgers. In Rick I found a partner who understands consumers and fully appreciates that the Dodgers are a treasured L.A.”
Later, Caruso also added, “The Dodgers are an iconic franchise, and I am thrilled to partner with Joe Torre, one of baseball's all-time greats, to launch a bid for this storied organization, and I am looking forward to our group benefiting from his unique
experience.”
Among many other high profile people and top company executives are also very excited to bid for the Dodgers potential purchase including the former owners Peter O'Malley and Fox Sports, former Los Angeles Lakers superstar star Magic Johnson with long-time
sports executive Stan Kasten, Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban, Time Warner, hedge-fund manager Steve Cohen, former agent Dennis Gilbert and former Dodgers’ players Steve Garvey and Orel Hershiser.
No one knows who will be victorious in the end in a bid to purchase the Angels’ city rivals but the deadline to submit initial bids are extended to 10 days for giving a potential relief to all the bidders to think thoroughly before any kind of drastic decision
while the selection of top bidder will be decided on April 1.
