MLB’s best player - Babe Ruth

Babe Ruth is known to be one of the best baseball players in Major League Baseball (MLB) history; by many various surveys and rankings. He was given many different names due to his versatility as a pitcher and prolific hitting skills ‘The sultan of Swat’ and ‘the Bambino’.

Ruth originally started off as playing of as pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, but later was traded to the New York Yankees. The dominating player became a Baseball Hall of Famer by 1936 and was one of the first five ever to be elected.

He is known widely for revolutionizing Baseball, when he changed the perception of the slow paced game by hitting constant home runs. Being the most dominant player of his time; he was selected as an All- Star Two times once in 1933 and the second time in 1934. His batting averaged up to .342 at the end of his career with a record of 714 Home runs.

Since then he was regarded as one of the greatest athlete ever to live, by Americans. His growing stardom was not only because of his outstanding play but it was also because of his charisma; he was noted to be a philanthropist off the field, other than that he was also acknowledged for his hasty lifestyle. Ruth took the Yankees to a whole new level by making winning 4 World Series titles and 7 pennants.

The Bambino’s Red Sox years began for him in early 1914, starting off as a pitcher he picked up his first major win on July 11th. By next year he hit had hit four runs and won 18 games out of 26 games by an average .315 hitting.

Although he was proving to be a flawless player he was sold to New York Yankees for a record setting price of $100,000 of that time. However the trade took place because Ruth demanded to get a pay raise of $20,000 which in today’s terms would be roughly around $200,000, which made Frazee loose patience and ended up selling him off. At first nobody wanted Ruth but it was because of how much Frazee was hated by MLB.

However a deal finally struck between the New York Yankees and Red Sox, and Ruth was soon to sign his new contract. After Ruth moved to the Yankees he made a transition from a pitcher to power hitting outfielder.  His first 15 years with the Yankees in which he played over 2,000 games, making countless records and adding numerous achievements to his career. Ruth took the Yankees to a whole new level by making winning 4 World Series titles and 7 pennants.

By late 20’s he hit 54 home runs, making an average of .846; a record which was not broken until 2001. By next year he broke his own record by hitting 59 home runs and slugging .846 average whilst taking the Yankees to their first ever league Championship. By July he broke Roger Connor’s record of 138 in just 8 years.

He was true to his title “The sultan of Swat”, his name become synonymous to Home run. His potent skills were remarkable and his power to hit home runs around 500 feet was simply amazing; giving an adjective to Baseball called “Ruthian” which describes a longest home run by a player.    

Before ending his astral career the brawny professional baseball player won 7 World Series, some of them consecutively, obtaining the Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player Award (AL MVP). He entered the Baseball Hall of Fame by 95.13% votes.

Babe was Jimi Hendrix of baseball as he was the one who brought funk to baseball.
