MLB’s new Vice President Joe Torre visits Los Angeles Dodger’s camp – MLB News
Joe Torre sets up his first visit of Spring Training squads as a Major League Baseball's Vice President of baseball. He toured the Los Angeles Dodgers' camp at the Camelback Ranch Complex on March 10, 2011.
It was Torre's 12th site since his selection to the place by Commissioner Bud Selig before two weeks. Torre used up the last three seasons of his 29-year executive career with the Dodgers and he retired from administration in October, 2010.
Speaking to media before the Cactus League game, Torre stated that, "When I was announced, I just felt I wanted to get around and talk to all the managers and general managers. I just wanted to say, 'Hello,' have a notepad, listen to anything they want to
talk about -- just sort of pick their brains."
Torre commented that he will also stay with the San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox on March 11, 2011, ending up the 15 Arizona sites, then leave for the 15 sites in Florida after that week. He also convened together with councils from
the amalgamation for both the players and umpires.
The tour came after the modifications in MLB's baseball management. Kim Ng and Peter Woodfork were selected as leading Vice Presidents in the division.
Ng, who has been a subordinate under three Dodgers’ general managers for the last nine years, will concentrate in MLB's international enterprises. It’s a vital position, taking into account that the 2013 World Baseball Standard is of two years. Lastly, she
was hired as a parallel helper of general manager position with the New York Yankees when Torre was at the start of his 12-year term there as manager.
Joe Garagiola became Vice President of principles and on-field administration. Garagiola is now indicting for the tempo of game, consistent strategy and stadium arrangements, among other on-field issues. His main focus is on player regulation for on-field
violations.
At the end of the press conference, Torre said, "Kim and Peter and Joe will be working under me. Of course, I still have a sense that they're going to be doing the heavy lifting. Peter and Kim are two energetic people. Kim I've known and have no hesitation
about her doing what we're going to ask her to do."
Now it will be a big challenge for Torre to make his decisions right in every matter of the respective department. He will also have to control the baseball management. Only time will tell if he can manage the responsibility that he has been given, looking
at his past with MLB, there is little doubt that he is the best candidate for the job.
