MLS: Chivas USA desperately searching for their true identity (Part 2)
Chivas USA was incepted in the MLS in 2004 and it still plays its’ home games at “The Home Depot Centre”, a stadium it shares with “L.A Galaxy”. This further overshadows the clubs’ profile in contrast to its far wealthy and famous counterparts.
The recent developments that saw the departure of 3 important personalities from the club will be a big factor in the sides’ quest for a new manager but moreover, Chivas USA desperately need to find their true identity and come out of the shadow of their
parent club if they are to make their name amongst the MLS elite.
The Red and Whites will this time be without the services of Hamilton but have to move on from the sudden exodus that saw them left without a coach, a president and a sporting director.
That is not the only problem Chivas will be facing in the long run. Having such an unstable environment might make it hard for a hopeful manager to want to come at the helm. The considerable revamp and the uncertainty surrounding the club will also force
sponsors to think before they bind themselves on a long-term contract with the club.
The turmoil over the past few days must have made the ‘now-left’ hierarchy of Chivas USA realize how important has it become for the club to find its’ real identity both on and off the field and should proceed towards that goal as quickly as possible.
Apart from the Columbus Crew and D.C United, every club has already passed on the opportunity to select one player from the available 35 players that were available in last Wednesday’s first stage of the Re-Entry Process. But this reticence should not be
expected from the other sides when the stage 2 of the Re-Entry Process starts.
The biggest factor behind this trend would be the considerably or presumably reduced and affordable price of the available 32 players. These available players won’t have the weight of costly options that were carried out in the stage one and the clubs of
MLS can easily go back and offer new deals to any of the 32 players available during the 2nd stage. Most of the players available during this stage will be in the six figure amount, so the clubs will have a great chance of getting players at reduced
prices who might turn out to be revelations when the new season starts next year.
There are cases when a club doesn’t really want a player but they can get the player for solely value purposes. A genuine offer for a player must be made by a club in the 2nd round of the Re-Entry Process within a time frame of 7 days.
If the offer is declined by the player, the MLS will have the option of retaining the MLS Rights of the player and MLS can then offer the same player to other clubs interested in his services.
Chivas USA should be looking to benefit from the 2nd phase of the Re-Entry Process in order to insert a new face in the side.
