MLS News - Robbie Savage to move to Vancouver Whitecaps
Championship side Derby County captain, Robbie Savage is eying the Major League Soccer, as he is pondering on a move to MLS Expansion side, Vancouver Whitecaps. The 36-year-old Welsh has confirmed that he is seriously in for the switch.
The end of the current season will see Savage’s contract at the club expire and the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 international has already confirmed that he will be leaving the Pride Park after the contract expires.
While talking to the media, Savage said that he has an opportunity to play in the MLS and is considering it. The former Manchester United man also admitted that he has already packed his bags and will make a move from Derby County once the season ends. He
went on that say the even if he is presented with a new contract with new terms, he would prefer moving out.
They feisty midfielder said that he has spent a great time with the Rams and knows that once he walks away, he will do so with his head held high. He said that his decision to leave the club is also because he now wants the young players of the team to come
forward and would not allow himself to hinder their development.
Jeff Mallet, one of the investors in Derby and the co-owner of the Whitecaps, is considered to play a pivotal role in if the move materializes.
The Canadian side is currently preparing its first ever season in Major League Soccer under the experienced captaincy of Jay DedMerit, a former Watford defender.
Savage disclosed the fact that he had talks with the Whitecaps owners and was quite impressed with what they were offering in terms of the club’s progression.
Robbie Savage is expected to travel to Vancouver in order to have a closer look at the conditions prevalent at the club.
Robbie Savage wants to finish the season with Derby County first before making a switch but it’s going to be a very tricky decision, as the transfer deadline at MLS is April 1st and his contract at Derby will expires on May 8th.
