MLS Supplemental Draft 2011: Best available players
This Tuesday, a three round Supplemental Draft will take place, after 54 players were drafted between 18 teams in the MLS.
The draft will be of three rounds and, being a new expansion side, the Vancouver Whitecaps will have the first pick.
Let us take a look at some of the best players in the Supplemental Draft.
Jeff Attinella
Position: Goalkeeper
The South Florida University graduate was an All-American as a junior in the 2009 season, but saw a slump last year in his performances that might hinder a big MLS side move.
Josh Ford
Position: Goalkeeper
The young keeper from Connecticut is an athletic shot-stopper and his great decision-making may earn him a good move.
Jimmy Maurer
The University of South Carolina's youngster was once a part of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chicago-Fire-c38795 PDL team and represented South Carolina for 4 years as a regular starter. The youngster still has an outside chance for making a move to MLS.
Michael Boxall
Position: Defender
The UC Santa http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barbara-c7295 graduate is the best defensive prospect left in the draft, but there are still many questions about his pace and ability.
Curtis Ushedo
Position: Defender
Even after proving himself to be an athletic and physically dominant center-back, Ushedo didn't do enough to earn a direct move to the MLS via the SuperDraft. But it is still believed that the two Canadian sides will pick up the prospect.
Greg King
Position: Defender
The Australian left-back from Connecticut has done decently enough to justify a pick but lacks the proper defender demeanor. The Aussie, however, is very good while going forward and only his international status might be a hindrance for a move to MLS.
Andrew Welker
Position: Defender
The young versatile player spent time as a forward as well as a defender with Seton Hall. The youngster has great positional sense that covers up a few of his weaknesses.
JC Banks
Position: Midfielder
He is the son of the former US international player, Jimmy Banks, and is a very good athlete. Even if he isn't picked this time, he won't have much to worry about as a few Swedish sides are monitoring his progress.
Daniel Keat
Position: Midfielder
The man from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/New-Zealand-c754 is a good ball-winning and box-to-box midfielder, but his demand slipped a bit after he suffered an injury.
Nathaniel Baako
Position: Midfielder
In the 2010, William and Mary had a very successful campaign, largely due to the creative presence of Baako. It was very surprising that the youngster wasn't given a nod in the SuperDraft last week, but he would be hoping to get an MLS move this Tuesday.
Lebogang Pila
Position: Midfielder
The central midfielder from St. Peters personifies raw talent, and certainly possesses the physical attributes to make it to the top level. The South African can be a good bargain for any MLS franchise, though will need some time to develop to his true potential.
Ashley McInnes
Position: Midfielder
The man from TULSA is one of the best attackers in this draft and, being a versatile midfield man, can also play as a forward. The youngster should be hoping for his big break as he has all the tools to make it to the top level.
Amani Walker
Position: Forward
The youngster from the North West can play as a midfielder, but being speedy will make him a good forward in the MLS for years to come.
Steven Beattie
Position: Forward
The youngster scored 77 goals in four years for Northern Kentucky and was the Division II Player of the Year last season. With roots in Ireland, the youngster can definitely become a big part of the MLS elite if he is given a chance by any of the 18 franchises.
Andy Adlard
Position: Forward
The Indiana athlete scored seven goals and provided 7 assists as he played alongside Will Bruin, in his senior year. If the youngster is played in the right system, he can surely be a player for the future.
