  1. Big John McCarthy is supporting MMA, so logically he would have to speak out against UFC®, which he has.

    E

  2. Sucks now though... Big John in an MMA staple... and I'm so tired of watching Herb Dean and Steve Mazziwhatever s***w up the ending of a lot of fights....

  3. Everyone is right on as far as I understand.  He is also part of some boxing commissions that includes MMA.  I believe if I am not mistaken that he is in the game somehow with Randy Couture.  I think there are talks of another league.  This saga of MMA is going to get brutal.  It is a contact sport and it is a contact business.  There are going to be winners and there are going to be winners.  My opinion is the UFC has too many enemies to stay on top and Dana White needs to keep his mouth shut.  He antagonizes Cuban at HDNet and Trup at Affliction.  Cuban has deals with everyone to co-promote fights but the UFC.  Cuban and Trump are billionaires and I hope they can work together to put the hurt of the UFC.

    Salaries in sports

the average sports franchise pays 50% of all revenue to athletes.  Baseball's is lower and football's is higher but it is ~50%.

Boxing pays an average of 75% of revenue to fighters on the card.

Does anyone care to guess what the UFC average has been up to here?

  4. Big John just didn't want to be a ref anymore he i guess retired but they don't have any benefits for MMA retired refs he was not part of the Nevada state comm. he was UFC ref in every state.. he did it for pennys he now gots a mma training gym or something.. he is a good ref but he didn't get paid c**p!

  5. according to big john it was "retirement".... but by the way he has been supporting different organizations like Affliction, it looks like there was some sort of falling out... he probably had some of the same concerns as Randy, in that the fighters werent getting paid enough... but either way, Big john was never technially employed my UFC, he was employed by the Nevada state fighting commision... plus he is one of the main heads of WAMMA (world alliance of mixed martial arts) which probably also occupies too much time to allow him to be a ref

  6. BJM did not work for the UFC, so they could not have fired him. He retired to do commentary and work with Affliction

  7. The way I heard it, Big John opted to leave in order to help Affliction get off the ground. I'm sure Dana was none too happy....

  8. McCarthy provides commentary and analysis for The Fight Network's coverage of UFC events.
