okay, i hate the Boxing-MMA comparisons, heck i even state it in my profile but i couldnt help but to post/ask this. For all you MMA fans who say your sport is better than boxing click the link below, your fighters are leaving the UFC, your sport was nice to watch while it lasts but MY sport is here to stay because it is the most pure form of hand to hand combat and it'll never die, i'm sorry i had to stoop this low to make my point but really my 100% honest question is, how long do you seriously think MMA will last? i'm not trying to bash it or anything but i want you to look deep into the MMA culture and be 110% completely honest, how long do you think it'll last?

  1. Not a fad.  MMA has it's place in sports as Boxing does.  Boxing will always be king but MMA will always have a loyal following, its a different type of action.  There is enough money out there for every sport, there are millions of people and millions of different tastes for action.

  2. Boxing has been around before the first Olympics and its had its good and bad times, but after a lull it has come roaring back and this year alone only 3 months in has seen some epic fights.

Dana White is resorting to W.W.E. ''Wrestlers'' to fill his cards and the big names are going elsewhere. If I see another ''Kimbo Slice vs Rambo'' or watever question from some of the MMA ''Fans'' Im gonna give my computer a viking funeral. I watched MMA years ago and it bored me to tears. Two guys who throw one punch then fall to the mat grabbing eachothers sweatbags until one chokes out the other or snaps a leg. Wow fun......Not. I get a kick that a MMA p.p.v. seems to always come up the same day as a boxing one. And why dont they use titles for the fights instead of ''U.F.C. 1,0000?

Usally a troll comes on answers to stir up stuff but they go away, but like herpes they come back. There is NO comparison between the sweet science of fist to fist with a legacy of household names who fought in the squared circle and guys in tights who should be wearing oil and have dollars thrown in the cage while The Village People sing ''Macho Man'' live.

In short, MMA IS A FAD AND BOXING WILL BE HERE FOREVER!!!!

  3. I completely agree with everything that you said.  I have actually tried to watch MMA but it was the most boring thing I ever watched- all they do is hold each other on the ground for like 15 minutes until somebody gives up.  I want to see REAL violence with knockouts and actual punches thrown, and boxing gives that to me.  When the best fight the best like they are currently, there is no other sport in the world that can compare to boxing.  MMA may last for a while, but boxing was here before MMA and it will be here long after it is gone, and eventually it will either die out or become like WWE (and its not too far from there right now with all the ground-holding that they do).

  4. Clearly not a fad.  It will be around for QUITE a while.  Heck. . .it already has been around forever in one form or another. . . ..they just now have t-shirts.  And ring card girls.  And sponsors. . . . . they learned lessons from boxing, and got better in the process.  We need both of them to quench the bloodlust of a changing society.  They're both here to stay.

  5. Thumbs up to ACEMAN, I couldn't have said it better.

  6. boxing will never go out and mma will never reach boxing status...boxing is more exiting and the fights are usually better matched...mma will be around for a long time but it will always be that other contact sport...boxing is never going to lose its spotlight...

  7. I am a huge fan of both boxing and MMA. I think MMA is a great sport that is here to stay, but i dont think it will over take boxing in popularity. Right now boxing has plateau-ed and at the same time MMA keeps rising. Boxing will eventually regain momentum once another super fight (like de la hoya vs mayweather) draws in more people. It also doesnt help that boxers are not as recognizable as they once were.

MMA is not a fad but it is also not Boxing.

  8. Well "MMA" hasn't been around all that long, but people have been interested and practiced the types of Martial Arts/disciplines that are used for a very, very long time (boxing is included in that list).

I don't think it is a fad at all - the sport, as it is now, is just a natural progression for a lot of these comtetitve athletes...what do you do if you are an amateur wrestler after college (wrestling has been around longer than boxing, and believe me, there really aren't "casual" wrestling fans - only rabid)?  Or you are really into judo, karate, etc.

A lot of this comes from the fact that there are still some holdover from the inception of UFC, there are still some guys competiting who are just brawlers, half-assed boxers, or whatever - but anyone who watches once can see that the top guys competiting now are way evolved from that, they are excellent athletes, usually top-shelf in one discipline, and with better than average skills in 2 or 3 others - where boxing fans get pissed is when they see that none of the guys are at the level of an average professional boxer as far as their boxing ability goes, then have to hear about how Chuck Liddell could kick a boxers *** if he wanted to be a pro boxer.

  9. first off even if those fighters leave the ufc it isnt for sure yet they will still be doing mma and mma has been beating boxing in ppv ratings thats why boxing is throwing all its biggest stars in to much needed fights mma will be around for awhile ufc middleweight champion anderson silva said he would love to fight whoever is champion in his weight class in boxing now that i would love to see and dont think silva will get k.o.ed quick either hes use to getting bashed with smaller gloves as well as knees and his hands are amongst the best in the ufc

  10. How can you answer this, your right their is no comparison. Boxing is way in its mature stage with hall of fame, celebrity status, millionaire fighters spanning throughout the globe. MMA is in its infancy stage barely getting any recognition from sports writers, media and every-day people. Boxing is already a main-stream sport such as football basketball baseball. MMA is a newcomer, so you cant expect to go heads up dollar for dollar, media status with boxing, its no way possible. What was the last sport to enter our realm of culture, Nascar for example was created in 1948, 60 years later its still fighting for national attention. Same for Arena Football (1987), Motorcross (1924), etc. and etc... So if you are looking for an answer, your just gonna have to wait and give it time to mature and establish itself. For the past decade their has only been one organization and they've only been established for the past decade while their competition has only sprouted within the past few years.

  11. you guys right!

mma needs to tone it down and get humble!

comparing it with boxing, it's like comparing nascar to Formula One, plain ridiculous!

ps: if it's still be around after 50 years, then we'll compare them!
