MMA: Is Brock Lesnar the next MMA Champion?
Brock Lesnar, heavyweight champion showed how mighty he was, after taking one-year off due to a serious illness which he apparently suffered after a camping trip in Canada. He proved how mature as a fighter he has become after taking on the robust unbeaten champ Shane Carwin.
Shane Carwin was also impressive who gave a bad beat to Lesnar in the first round, landing consistent punches and kneeing his way through to the top.
However, Lesnar’s intellect proved everyone wrong, after playing a defence game like Mohammad Ali used to play by wearing his opponent out. He managed to defend himself even after Carwin managed to land 40 punches near his face. Lesnar, covered himself and struggled to stay on his feet giving him as little room as he possibly could. Carwin proved to be victorious in the first round but unthinkingly wasted most of his energy.
Carwin was jolted by Brock’s performance, as Shane has never made it to the second round and is known to finish is opponent in the first.
In the second round Brock Lesnar moved with extreme caution around Carwin, because he knew one blow from him could land Brock right on the ground. Brock did what was not expected of him in the second round, he threw Shane off his balance and wrapped his arms around him giving him an arm triangle choke which Carwin could not defend as Lesnar’s sheer strength out matched him; which led to Shane Carwin submitting for the first time in his entire career by tapping his hand to the floor.
After the enormous win Lesnar stated: “From that fight to this one feels like 10 years, It's been a grueling road. To come back from all that, and to be here and to win, words just cannot describe it. I really feel like I'm in a dream."
This year was startling as Brock showed he had matured not just as MMA fighter but as a person, He celebrated with joy rather than talk trash, bad mouth sponsors and make offensive gestures like the middle finger to the crowd after beating Frank Mir this year. As an alternative he praised his opponent and stretched out to the crowd who booed him off the arena last July by thanking them.
Brock’s victory this year certainly was more than just a show case of toughness; he enhanced his ability to play a decent ground game. Moreover leading to a submission victory has scored him extra points in the MMA, because a year back one could not imagine him doing that. This victory was just not another win for Lesnar but it has created a huge impact on his MMA career, the former WWE champion (fake wrestling) has now become MMA’s biggest player by just competing in six pro fights, winning millions of hearts by his beyond belief performance.
Just when he was handed the heavy weight title belt, he said that a thought did cross his mind that it might end as he had interpreted, but he has been through a lot and was not going to go home without the belt and that was for certain.
Lesnar who has dropped out of two fights which were scheduled for him against Shane Carwin, because of the multiple injuries he had faced during a hunting trip to Canada, finally fought his way through with an MMA Legend.
Shane Carwin who has not lost even a single one of his previous fights and a contender who has ceased his opponent from ever following him through the next round, was out-smarted by a newbie to the MMA World, Brock Lesnar. Even after the intense blowouts that Carwin gave him in the second round, including a staggering uppercut which led Lesnar to bleed from his forehead, did not put Lesnar down.
Even after Brock’s immense win, Shane Carwin truly showed his sportsmen spirit and said “My hat is off to him, I fell down the mountain, but I'll get back up.”
