MMA: Top 3 fighters of 2010 – Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez, and Fedor Emelianenko
It was a major upset for the Mixed Martial Art fans when the Russian native Fedor Emelianenko, who is considered to be the world’s greatest fighter, lost to a Brazilian fighter named Fabricio Werdum last month. The whole MMA nation was in turmoil, wondering who the next champion would be.
Fortunately, one man answered the question not long ago, by a champion who they say once upon a time used to fight his opponents via written scripts.
As MMA enthusiasts say, it was “epic” when Brock Lesnar, a professional fake wrestler, beat MMA Champion Shane Carwin. Taking the number one position by facing a contender who had never lost before, and was known to take his opponents down by the first round, Brock Lesnar took a tremendous beating down in the first round by Shane Carwin. Millions of punches were thrown to his face yet he remained conscious till the next round, leaving everyone in utter shock as the unthinkable happened, but it did not stop there. Brock beat Carwin in the 2nd round by submission, leaving people in utter disbelief.
After beating champions like Randy Couture, Frank Mir and Shane Carwin, Brock has proved that he deserves the No.1 spot.
Cain Velasquez takes the No. 2 spot with 8 wins by 7 knockouts and 1 by decision with 0 losses. Cain is known for his stamina; one thing that experts say his opponents fail to realize is that the longer this mean machine stays in the match, the more it favours him. The Mexican-American started his career in MMA four years ago after knocking out Jesse Fujarczyk in 2006. Cain proved to the MMA that he belonged there after knocking the giant Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on 21st February 2010, which many have tried to do over the years but have failed.
Cain is scheduled to fight with the world No. 1 Brock Lesnar on 23rd October, 2010. Experts say that Brock is both stronger and bigger in size, but if Velasquez survives till the second round, he has a very good chance of draining Brock’s energy, and might just succeed in beating him.
Cain and Brock might be new to the MMA world, and have not fought many fights, but the reason they take the top spot is because they have fought with the toughest fighters the MMA has to offer and beaten them.
Fedor Emelianenko is a 33 year old Russian heavyweight MMA fighter who was recently beaten in a brutal fight last month by a Brazilian MMA contender named Fabricio Werdum. Fedor is one of the oldest MMA fighters; he won 32 fights and has lost only 2 matches till date. He has won 12 gold medals: 4 in the World Championships, 1 in the European Sambo Championship and 7 in the Russian Sambo Championship. Critics who believe that Fedor is not as crisp and sharp as he used to be, seems out of shape and is just enjoying his pay roll, were proven right when he lost to Fabricio on June 26, 2010. However, if we’ve learnt anything from observing Fedor, he is a true contender and most likely is training in the gym at this very moment. He is not a fighter who gives up; he is going to train harder and challenge the Brazilian soon again. His natural ability to strike fast and hit the opponent with sheer force is a serious threat to his opponents. Wile many stand in the ring defending themselves or hopping around, Fedor is a fearless man who gets in and gets out triumphant.
Only one fight remains on the Strikeforce contract that Fedor signed this year; he could very well come to the UFC and challenge a tough contender like Brock or Shane and claim the throne and become No. 1.
