Is there more out there than UFC and WEC? I've always been a huge fan of the UFC and this weekend discovered WEC. Is there more that I've been missing out on?

  1. IFL, (USA)

    Elite, (USA)

    K-1 (Asia)

And a new one just started in ATL, Ga.

  2. I would say it, but then I'm just reiterating the previous posters.

I see you as the type who is going ga-ga over GSP's pretty boy looks.

  3. Like people above mentioned, there are other leagues (IFL, Dream, Shooto, Elite XC, K-1, Toughman, etc.) that are televised, but you are missing out if you don't go to a local venue and watch the fights.

There have always been "MMA" fights at bike rallys, convention centers, etc. but now they are being promoted much more heavily, and the competition is getting more fierce.  It will give you a different appreciation to hear the smacks and grunts when 2 guys are going at it in front of you.  Plus you get to see some amazing, crazy stuff at live fights - amateurs try to do some moves that pros never would.

There's nothing like watching fights in person, and tickets are really cheap - $10-15 at most events, and some are even free.

(But please - don't say you've "always been a fan of the UFC".  It sounds insencere when you've never heard of any of the leagues that these guys come from.)

  4. Currently? on top of my head:

Strikeforce, Elitexc, f*g (formerly k-1 heroes), Shooto, M-1.

  5. The WEC is owned by the UFC so they are kind of like a minor league.  There are tons of other organizations.

The other big ones are EliteXC, IFL, and Dream

Both Elite and the IFL are hemmoraging money so they might not be around much longer. Dream is a Japanese company and therefor hard to find in the US.

  6. OMG, Behind, I NEVER would have guessed that you were a fan!

    That is too funny!

    Sandy  :O)

  7. I am very surprised that no one here mentioned Pride Fighting in Japan. To me those fighters are just as good as UFC fighters. Very good organization over there.

  8. zuffa bought pride and it is no more. i think dream is its replacement. are ufc the walmart of mma?

  9. If you like the UFC then I'd suggest PRIDE.which is held in Japan.

  10. Elite XC was on CBS Saturday (Kimbo Slice fight)
