  1. MMA isn't a style. It means mixed martial arts, so yes it has BJJ in it as a key part, but stand up is also in it, which would include boxing. If there is an MMA school near you, then I would go there. If there is a BJJ school and a boxing school near you, then I would go to both. You have to know more than one style to be an MMA practitioner. But hey, you could go to an MMA and the boxing gym, then your stand up would be awesome.

  2. If your serious about getting good you'll need to learn BJJ, wrestling/judo, and muay thai kickboxing. Boxing is good but it doesn't prepare you for kicks, knees, elbows and the clinch. The basic skills in boxing doesn't work in MMA The stance leaves you open to leg kicks, knees and head kicks. The best MMA fighters train in some sort of standup that integrates kicks, knees and elbows. Look for schools that compete heavily they will be better than the get in shape places.

  3. Boxing and Japanese jiu-jitsu complement each each in my experience :)***

  4. most mma schools train japanese or brazilian jui jitsu and kickboxing

  5. I agree with the first answer. Go to an MMA school if there is one. If not do a grappling style (BJJ, Judo) and a striking style which also includes kicks knees and elbows (Mauy Thai or Karate) I would not do kickboxing personally as I think it limits itself to just punches and kicks, but if its the only thing around your area then go there.
