MMA salaries.. how do they work?

Question

seems like a silly question.. but when a MMA fighter (like UFC) gets paid.. and its says something like.. blah blah blah $200,000... is that per year of fighting or per fight?

Amatuers get paid nothing, and in fact, if they get paid, they can no longer fight as an amatuer. Professionals can get paid per fight, as I do. When you make it big, you may get a contract which pays X/yr. X is usual a small amount-a stipend you can count on to help pay for the gym and supplements. On top of X, you get paid a variable figure depending on whether you win, e.g. 5k win/2500 loss. Often, a fighter will get a one year contract like this: 1st fight of yr 2k win/1k loss, 2nd fight of yr 4k win/2k loss, 3rd fight 10k win/5k loss to reward longevity.

If you see an article listing fighter pay, such as the ones from mmajunkie.com that get posted on Yahoo, that is for that one fight.  Those figures are the amounts that the fighters get paid that were reported to the relevant Athletic Commission.  It does not include sponsership money (which for most low-card fighters is more than what they make for the actual fight) or bonuses, such as the Fight of the Night bonus or any other bonuses that a fighter may get.  Some elite level fighters (we're talking Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture level here) also get cuts of the PPV revenue, which also are not included.

fighters are pretty much an imdepdent contrcats you agree to fight for a promoter for what ever as you said 200,000 dollars thats for the fight most of the pro fighters are open to figth anywhere fight for this promoter one month another promoter the next the elite guys like UFC for example have somehtign like 4 fights over 18 months type of deal with a pre determend amount for each fight
