Question:

MMA vs. Boxing Analogy?

Here's an analogy I came up with to maybe better compare Boxing with MMA:

MMA is to Boxing

as

Basketball is to a Form of Basketball where you can only score by shooting 3-pointers.

Imagine if 2 NBA teams played a game of basketball where on offense you could only shoot 3-Pointers. Imagine how easy it would be defend against that. Sure, some shots would go in here and there as NBA Players are highly skilled, especially if all the players were Guards (centers wouldn't be needed), but overall, the shooting percentages wouldn't be very high and the scores would probably be pretty low. Lots of missed shots. sounds kind of boring to me.

That Glorified version of H.O.R.S.E. I just described is similar to Boxing in that boxers can only score by punching. They can not kick, wrestle or use submissions. It is much easier for the defender to defend against a punch when he knows it's coming. So you have lots of punches thrown but very few landing. Boring.....

  1. Lmao Ruddi loving the answer mate so so true...i cant stand all these MMA fans who think there hobby is taking over the world.... theres too many upsets and that makes its rubbish any man can step into the ring with a champion and slug him on the chin and hes the champion....ive got a friend who i would fancy being MMA champ hes got the deadliest right hand ive ever seen one of them n ur out cold....thts just the criteria you need to fight in the MMA right ?

i only like watching fights when i know theres 2 stand up hitters coz then its a  little more like boxing but ive seen UFC fights that have gone the distance with 2 men just hugging each other on floor....wow thats box office that!

No skill involved and its too much like wrestling for my liking....and heres to all you wrestling fans..................................wa... for it............................wait for it.................IT'S NOT REAL!

  2. Why do all of you MMA fans come to the BOXING section and start gloating about your "sport?"  We don't care about it because it's boring as all h**l and it is NOT anything close to real fighting.  I've said it before and I'll say it again- MMA is a bunch of white guys who can't fight, so they got tatoos, started acting tough, and created a "sport" that appeals to other white guys that can't fight.  In MMA all they do is mount, hump, and grab each other's nutsacks- that ain't fighting...  There are no legends of MMA, and there will be no legends, while boxing will always have all time greats that we can look back on and say "wow, they were something special."  You won't get that in MMA because there is nothing special about two guys that are afraid to stand up and fight, so instead they fall to the floor and start to hump each other.  If you want to gloat about MMA, then go to the mixed martial arts section- its full of guys that are fooled just like you are- true FIGHT fans in the boxing section know better.

  3. You must be an MMA fan. I still ask the question  why do people compare a real sport like boxing to a competition tournament like MMA.

Lets get something strait Karate is a sport, Ju jitsu is a sport, kickboxing is a sport, and Boxing is MEGA sport.

MMA is not a sport!! Its a combination of a bunch of sports including boxing!!

Chuck Liddell was awesome and he never went to the ground and he dominated for years because he used a basic form of boxing.

Why do you think there are more upsets in MMA then in Boxing? Its because the skill level is so much higher in boxing, Ive done both and boxing involves way more skill then MMA.

And MMA is more exciting??????? since when? If i want to watch men in skimpy tights hug each other for 3 minutes ill go grab a seat at a g*y bar.

Your Analogy....SUCKS! quite frankly and makes no sense. MMA the way it is now has only been around for a few minutes compared to Boxing and its already losing its premier fighters.

UFC made MMA mainstream then dumbed it down to please the sponsors.

You find me one fight in the history of the MMA thats more exciting then Arturo Gatti - Mickey Ward, Corrales-Castillo,Ali-Foreman, Ali-Frazier,Paquioa-Morales..i could go on and on. Name any fight thats more exciting then those??

Heres a real analogy, Boxing is a real sport, MMA is a mix of a bunch of different sports much like how a flea market sells a bunch of different ****.

Like Bruce said up there, Mayweather made 20 million for one fight, the top MMA fighter could fight for 3 lifetimes and not make that much, thats a reality.

  4. Ok, greatest boxing match of all time:  Frazier Ali.  1 hour of fighting.

Greatest MMA fight of all time?  Chuck Liddel takes a nap after one punch.  Now THAT was boring.  Michael Spinks was laughing after Jackson-Liddel.

I finally realized what makes MMA fans so trollish.  They are displacing their latent sexual identity issues by being hateful towards boxing.  Deep down, you hyperviolence fanatics are deeply disturbed sado masichists, and latently g*y.  It all adds up when you watch this video .  Check this out MMA fans.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBVyAaC3v...

  5. thumbs up to ruddiger.. boxing is a real sport where two fighters stand on there feet fighting with skills.. MMA fighters have no skills at all, there only talent is hugging, rolling and humping on ground !!

  6. Man fighting it's so broad when we talk about styles, traditions and our culture.  Boxing is a totally different concept that the "new trends" in MMA.  I remember the first time I saw Joyce Gracie bring a near 400 pound beast to his knees in the first UFC fight in the western world.

It's hard to explain it, just like your analogy, but the fact is that no boxer could ever stand a chance in an octagon with their rules, but it goes back the same way with the MMA in boxing. A boxer will technically defeat with no problem any MMA fighter since he would have to just survive out of his boxing skills and follow the boxing rules.

  7. Terrible analogy first off. I'm a boxing fan but I also like to watch some MMA but, you can't compare the two. MMA is a mixture of many martial arts rolled into one as best you can, hence, Mixed Martial Arts. Boxing is in it's purest form, boxing, nothing else added. Now if we were to do with MMA, like you did in your analogy of only shooting 3's in the NBA, and take the boxing out would you actually watch? Majority of the excitement in MMA is the k.o. which is from boxing or kick boxing techniques.I enjoy MMA bouts as well as boxing but you cant compare the two. It's apples and oranges.

  8. MMA fighters make pennies while elite Boxers make millions.  How is that for a true analogy.

  9. I respect all art forms that deal with hand to hand or feet, blah blah, combat. Boxing was first so until it leaves MMA is second. It is very fun to watch but people like Pac-Man, Mayweather, Ali, Holyfield, Lewis, Mosley, and other Boxing legends display skill and do not rely on artistic haymakers. Kimbo Slice would be destroyed by a young Mike Tyson even if he could use his legs and feet. Again I like Slice but an athletic Butterbean loses to a young Holyfield every time.

  10. boy you have no clue! i'd put a very good average boxer against your MMB champ any day and 8 out of 10 x i'll pick the boxer

  11. Don't you idiots have your own section? If you don't like boxing , don't watch it.

  12. "GREAT" analogy and looking at your post it took you about an hour to come up with that nonsense....

    Here's an analogy:

Boxing champion is to gold medal in the Olympics as

MMA champion is to a youtube "star" knocking people out in a parking lot!! (kimbo slice)

Real Classy !! What a joke!
