Question:

MMR jab: red, hard, hot, sore lump at source of injection?

My daughter had her MMR jab two days ago and this lump has got larger since, its now about 1inch by 2inches long. Her twin brother also had his at the same time and there isn't even an injection mark! The nurse did scratch her with needle when she did it as my daughter jerked her leg, could this be the reason? Do you think it is anything to worry about? Or any advice with what to do about it. She's 18 months old, not running a temperature or diarrhoea etc. I am going to talk to the nurse on monday morning but just thought I'd ask the question while I wait.

  1. My son had the same thing. Its just a reaction. I seem to remember it lasted a while too. I dont think its anything to worry about but us mums just do!!! Talk to the nurse on monday;-)

  2. My daughter also was very sensitive to the MMR shot.  It was itchy and red and large for her as well.  The doctor just said to give it time and it eventually went down.  If it continues to get larger I would see the doc right away.  You could try putting a warm, wet wash cloth on the bump, or if its more comfortable for your daughter, a cold pack.

  3. Its just a reaction to the injection - some children react to it, whilsts others don't.

As she jerked, and the needle scratched her - that is why the reaction 'site' will be larger. Don't worry.

  4. Yeah my son had his MMR on wednesday he has had a reaction to it as well. Your daughters does sound like it could just be from where she jerked her leg and the nurse has scratched it, i would still get it checked out though just in case. good luck

  5. Yes that sounds normal, both my children had this with nearly all of their vaccinations.
