Question:

MMR vaccination in adult woman, is arthritis possible?

I got a MMR vaccine about 9 months ago. I am a 35 y.o. woman. I now have pain in my shoulder, elbow, finger joints, and ankles. I read somewhere that MMR can cause joint pain that lasts a few weeks in adult women. Should my pain be lasting this long (9months) and can MMR also cause arthritis?

  1. It is possible that the pain can last this long is you do not get enough sleep. MMR cannot cause arthritis.

  2. Yes, the MMR can cause arthritis.  It is the rubella, or "R" portion that does it.

You can search the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting system, which is a government program, here.

To start, just choose MMR as the vaccine and type arthritis as the symptom and see what comes up.  27 pages came up for me.
