MOMS- What are your favorite baby items?

What baby items do you use the most and which ones do you find that were a waste of money? I am trying to eliminate some things on my registry, but I am not sure what I will and will not use. Is there any particular type or brand of stroller, high chair, swing, gym, tub, ect ... that you like a lot? Did you get a certain type or brand that you hated and had to return or just really dislike? I am just really worried that I will spend money on these big items and not like them or not use them (well obviously things like a crib, high chair, ect will be used.) The main things that I am having the hardest time deciding on are monitors and breast pump. I have heard really good things about the Medula, but it cost so much.

  1. Graco is a good brand for your car seats, stroller, playpen..etc.  I found that buying a convertible crib was a very good investment.  My daughter now uses it as a toddler bed and will eventually use it as a full size bed plus it comes with 3 attached drawers..so that's money saved.   Also if you go online and research some of the products you're interested in there are reviews by consumers listed that are very very helpful.  Expensive isn't always better.  Hope this helps a little.  Good luck and congratulations on your baby!

  2. I love the butterfly swing and I recommend the night time baby bath and lotion and I like huggies diapers and wipes and I   like the baby snuggle wraps and new playpens that play music and vibrate

  3. breast pump are a must i say .i used the avent hand pump and it was really really good here is a link http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp... the were really great an di am so glad i gave a try .

i had a monitor but didnt quite need it . i had a loud baby ,.

  4. I love travel systems. However, for me they have to be able to clip the car seat onto the pushchair without pulling the pushchair apart as it makes it easier, looks nicer and is quicker.

I also found my breast pump to be a god send. I had problems breastfeeding, so pumped until I dried up to allow my son to still have breast milk. This time I am getting it so I can feed my baby when out and about easier or so my eldest son/fiance can take part and join in.

Baby carrier sling things are brilliant as they enable you to hug your baby close and still have hands to do housework or shopping. It also makes popping to the shops so much easier.

I didn't have a baby swing and didn't need one. They were very expensive so that put me off, especially as you only get a couple months use out of them. I had a bouncy chair which is much cheaper and more portable so baby is occupied and within sight while doing things like showering/cleaning/laundry etc.

I also found a CD player in the nursery was brilliant as I played a womb sounds CD on it at night times and was the only thing that got my over-alert baby to sleep.

Graco, Mothercare, Maclaren, Avent, Pampers, Johnsons are all brilliant makes. I love them all.

  5. i love my boppy pillow. a great monitor is one you can get online at target.com and it has attachments so you can wear it on your arm, wrist, belt, or on the stand. i LOVE mine. also, it is rechargeable so you won't waste a ton of money on batteries. it is like $60. i chose to do a bouncer and not a swing. they outgrow both at the same time and are only weighted for the same amount of lbs, so that could save you some money. i also reccommend a pack in play with a bassinet attachment so that you don;t waste money buying two items. i LOVE my avent isis iq duo breast pump it is expensive (about$300), but well worth it and you can use it with all your other kids later on. just don;t use the bottles because they are not bpa free. a steamer sterilizer is a must too. it saves time and you can put bottles, pacies, and toys in it. (about $20 at walmart or target) hope this helps a little!

  6. Swing.  battery powered, back and forth or front to back.  Life saver, it's on the only way my son would stop screaming.  MUST have.

  7. If your going to pump, it is worth it to spend that $200 on a good medela double, electric pump... worth every penny. think of how much formula costs weekly, the cost of the pump is worth it!

  8. I would highly recommend the Medela breast pump. I know it's a lot of money but it's well worth it, especially if you think you might have more kids. Don't waste money on the cheaper ones, they are awful, I've tried them all and hated them. Ebay has a lot of Medela pumps, check that out...you should try ebay for a lot of stuff. I really like my Kolcraft Contour Options Three Wheeler stroller. It is wonderful, you can push it with one hand and put the seat in many different positions and you can use it with a car seat very easily. I also love the Rainforest Jumperoo, my last two have loved that thing, although it takes up a significant amount of space. I never really used my changing table. I used it maybe 2 or 3 times and then it just became a storage place. I wasn't going to go upstairs everytime the baby neede to be changed. I would designate a place on the couch and put a mat under her. Summer Infant has a really nice bather. I do not like the tub kind for newborns, this one is more like a sling and they sit in it very well. I hate my digital graco monitor it is awful. I recently got a 900mhz Fisher Price one with the night light and I love that one, it goes futher with no static then the graco one. Hope this helps.

  9. I use Luvs diapers, Pampers are good too, but Luvs are cheaper. Love the Shea Butter Huggies wipes, only thing that didn't burn my baby's bottom. DEFINITELY get a swing, lifesavers, they are! Graco products are usually really good. I think Diaper Genie's are a waste of money, but some really love them. Strollers definitely get used, as well as the swing, the safety tub (unless you want to bathe your baby in a sink for a while). The monitor you can definitely go cheap on. I got the Walmart cheapest and works just fine. The infant bouncer was totally useless to me because my son used it maybe twice. I did want to get a baby gym thing, but never could. Probably could do without it, but they enjoy it so much (have watched other women play with their children with them). Congrats on the bundle on the way!
