  1. I commend you on your chose of MOS. Just a tip, make sure you are really ready for life AFTER the military. There's this thing called PTSD and combat medics are highly susceptible to this God awful condition. Some of my best friends are "DOC's". I get calls from them two to five times a day. And the war ended in 1973.

  2. 68W is essentially "combat medic".  It used to be 91B then 91W.  If you branch out to say lab tech, xray tech, nursing or other health related sub-specialtly, you have an identifier connected to your MOS.  ie 91W-M6.

The best thing about being a medic is the vast amount of stations you can be assigned.  They go anywhere and everywhere.  Not always an advantage.  Most times, you ARE slotted to a Battalion (definatley could be infantry or artillery) working wherever the unit goes.  You'll be respectively known as "doc" as I was for many years.

I had a great time as a medic.  But the show must go on.  You're essentially the civilian equivalent of an EMT.  As a matter of fact, to complete the training, you must pass the National Registry Emergency Medical Technicians NREMT (exam with a 75-80%, been a while).  They don't call you COMBAT medics for nothing.

    Edit:  just for you :)

  3. 68W is a Health Care Specialist, with options as Combat Medic. The MOS you've been looking at is the really the only one that combines combat and medical.
