MOS is in a different state than from the state I entered into... how do you? ?

Ok. Well I just need some clarification. I'm not sure how this works. Let's presume that I want to join the Finance Corps or enter as a Law/Paralegal as an Officer and my unit in Texas does not have that MOS there.....will they move me to another state that does have it?

I'm considering Texas Army National Guard and I am hoping that they will have a vacancy for me in Texas but if they don't then will I have to relocate to the different state to attend my monthly drills? Will they pay for relocation? Will I stay on a base? Will they pay for me to fly out there once a month?

Please do help if anyone can answer this.

Thank You

  1. You need to find a job in your state you can drill in a different state but they won't pay you for driving or flying or relocating your state should have something in finance and law at its HQ at your state capital

  2. When you join the national guard, it is not like joining the active forces.

If there is no opening in the texas national guard for the job you want, then you cannot join for that job.

If the specific texas national guard unit, you want to join, does not have a certain mos, or does not have an opening for that mos, then you cannot pick that job.

So if another state, has a job in their national guard,

Then you will have to join that states national guard.

They do not pay for your relocation, they do not pay for you to get to your monthly drills.

So do not join a national guard unit, unless you can actually get to it for your monthly drills.

The guard and reserves are not like the active duty military, every job is not available.

So you have to choose a job they have and a job that is available.

  3. I believe that you will have to go where your MOS is needed- however I don't know all the details to the other questions you have.  You could call your local recruiter and ask.

  4. When you go to MEPS, they'll show you where those particular people are needed.  You are responsible for getting to that unit; the Army will not move you.

Most people find an MOS slot near their geographic location, but I've known a few that just do the drive every month.

    Good luck to you,
