MOUSE TRAP BOARD GAME. The"hand" on the plumbing should push up "thingummyjig" to tilt it. Mine doesnt. WHY?

Question

When the ball rolls down the slide, it hits the post. Obviously it should push the post up, to tilt the "thigummyjig", releasing the second ball to roll into the bath etc. With my little girl's new set,the ball hits the post, but only just moves it, so the ball doesn't move.

Is there any way of adjusting it?

Mouse trap has always been a messed up game, that never worked.
