MP3 vs AAC????? Is it worth switching?

Question

I wonder is there any difference between the two? I have an iPod nano 2nd generation I got about 80% of my songs from a free music site I recently converted them to AAC on iTunes and I am wondering whether there is any difference between MP3 and AAC I did notice some improvements in the cheering sound quality but otherwise I can't tell the difference??? Is AAC better than MP3 other than the fact that it saved me 100 MB of space?
