MP4 is a file format!

MP4 player is a generic Music Video Player

iPod is apple's name for their MP4/MP3 players.

Sony only use their own format and have zero cross compatibility, Apple use many formats and are excellent quality and features and the easiest to use. Creative, Zune And Archos also make their own MP4 players.

Apples Ipod needs itunes to sync and organise it in the same ways ans many players need their own media centre.

overall itunes/iPod is the easies quickest and most flexible to use with great quality!

personally for me its ipod (touch 32GB )!

I have personally had both and I prefer ipod over the MP4 .If you want something cheap though and you want to get on some sort of ipod, you could get the ipod shuffle. On the ipod shuffle you cant see your songs. They are cheap though. If you have a bigger price range or no price range at all you should  go for the ipod. If you need al lot of music and your price range is big you would need a ipod touch or an ipod classic.

If you don't need as much music you could try the ipod nano or shuffle.

Again it all on how much money you want to spend. If you want to play videos on your ipod you need to get the new square ipod nano or the ipod touch.

Think about how much money you want  to spend and then decide.
