Question:

MRI Scan on my Left Knee

Hi guys.

At Rugby Training 2 weeks ago, I was doing a shuttle run and when I turned, my knee clicked, and I had extreme pain.

The next day, I went to the Physio. They said to keep off it, and come back in after the weekend.

I went in on the Monday, and it was a bit better, but still sore. They then booked me in to see a doctor the Tuesday next week.

That Tuesday was today. I just got back from the Doctor, and he said that I am going to need an X-Ray and an MRI scan. I'm booked in for Monday.

I was just wondering if you guys who have had this happen, give me some information on what the MRI scan is and things.

- Is it scary?

- If its with my knee, will my whole body have to go in the tube?

- How long does it take?

- Any tips on what to do while laying down in there?

Thanks in advance! :)

  1. When I was five or 6 I had to go in the big tube to get an exray of my head lol I cried the whole time...it freaked me out

but its not too bad..if you're older it shouldn't be scary..and about your whole body going in im not too sure..

I diont think it took to long...

and I think u have to lie really really stilll

I could be giving u false advice so I guess..dont listen to me lo.l

  2. A MRI on your knee is a piece of cake.  Only your leg is inserted into the machine.  The room will be chilly so if you may want to bring a sweatshirt.   The machine loud.. when I had a MRI of my head I was given ear plugs.

The scan takes about 45 minutes.  You have to be perfectly still so a mp3 player would be perfect.  Or a book, magazine, or do what I do, take the opportunity and relax.

Good luck with your knee.  Hope it's nothing serious.

  3. I'm getting a MRI on Wednesday, and it's going to be my third one. don't worry, they're not bad at all, just kind of loud.

yes your whole body will go in.

    it's takes like 20 mins

sometimes they'll let you bring in an ipod, or a cd player

  4. I had a MRI on the knee for a PCL tear.

They just slide your knee into the machine, but the machine is so big that part of your body will go in.  It's over really quick.   I was there for about 30 minutes, tops, and that includes checking in and changing, etc.   Nothing to be scared about at all.

Just don't wear anything metal.   MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging.....I guess metal can do something bad in there, not sure what.
