MRI examination unveils bone bruise and broken sheath in Michael Morse’s left wrist - MLB News
Washington Nationals’ outfielder Michael Morse is absent from the line-up currently due to pain in his left wrist. As he has gone through the examination, it has emerged that his left wrist contains a bone bruise and a broken sheath, which is an indication
that he can keep playing without the compulsion of any surgery.
Morse is pleased with the fact as he was apprehensive before the check up hoping that there was no serious tear found in his wrist.
The report is encouraging from the point of view of playing in the season by Morse. However, timeline of his return has not yet been given. Once he carries out batting practices and shows improvement, he can put officials in a better position to judge his
credentials for playing comfortably.
Before Morse missed the games, he was discomforted by the trouble in his left wrist but he continued playing. It seemed like he was playing on the premise that for as long as the pain does not become too intense he will not give up. Finally when he told
the manager Davey Johnson about his inability to perform consistently due to this, he underwent the examination.
Right now, Morse will be eyeing on the series starting on Friday in Atlanta. He will be looking to participate and show some power at the plate. He will be aware of the fact that his production has declined slightly in the last few weeks unlike what it has
been since his entry into the season.
Johnson complains if Morse had informed about his pain in advance, he will have allowed him some time off the season and that would have helped him recover smoothly.
"He's been trying to play through it, but I was going to give him off anyway because I thought he had to be hurting the way he's been swinging," Johnson said. "Glad to find out about it. Wished he'd have said something. Maybe we could've given him some time
off and then he wouldn't have had to struggle through this little batting slump."
It will be hoped that once Morse plays now, his performance will not suffer and that the Nationals will keep banking on him for massive home-runs that he is capable of hitting.
