MRI scans reveal Pau Gasol has a tear in the plantar fascia of his right foot – NBA Update
After losing the opening game of a seven game road trip to Phoenix Suns, the Los Angeles Lakers have won three games in a row, the last one coming over the Brooklyn Nets. However in that road trip, the Lakers not only lost Dwight
Howard, but also their other star big in Pau Gasol.
Gasol has suffered a right foot injury late in the game against the Nets on Tuesday, and after the initial MRI scans, it has been revealed that he has suffered a tear in the plantar fascia. The player is now expected to head to
Los Angeles to have a detailed examination with the team doctors, and although the franchise is mum about the absence period, it is understood that the Spanish big man will be out of action for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
Gasol took to Twitter after receiving the news and hoped to recover quickly;
"The result of the MRI shows I have a torn fascia of my right foot," Gasol tweeted. "Tomorrow I'll fly back to LA to see our team doctors. #AlwaysPositive"
"Hoping to recover asap so I can be back with the team and keep fighting until the end of the season. #GoLakers #AlwaysPositive"
Gasol didn’t have the best of seasons, but was finally starting to click in the last two weeks. The four times All-Star, who missed 13 games earlier this season with tendinitis in both knees and concussion, was averaging 13.33
points and 8.25 rebounds and was the main reason behind the current Lakers three game winning spree.
The development has left the Lakers extremely thin on the front court. They will now have to depend on Earl Clark, Robert Sacre, Antawn Jamison and Metta World Peace to hold the fort. What this will also do is to prompt Howard
to make a quicker comeback from his nagging shoulder injury.
The will also put added pressure on Coach Mike D’Antoni, who hoped to get Howard back soon;
"We'll see what happens," D'Antoni told the "Mason & Ireland Show" on ESPNLA 710 radio on Wednesday. "Hopefully, Dwight will be back fairly soon, but you approach it like any other game. Guys got to step up.
