It depends on the type of stent you are talking about.  A stent simply means a tube to keep a passage inside the body open: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stent  So I don't know if you have a stent placed around the heart (a coronary stent), around the bladder (a ureteric stent), or around the stomach (an esophageal stent).

    Anyway, most stents used in coronary (heart) interventions are safe:

    However, to be sure, contact the doctor/hospital putting in the stent -- they would know the exact type/model/composition of the stent, and thus whether it contains any ferro-magnetic material.
