MS Dhoni has lost his magical instincts, feels http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aakash-Chopra-c41377 – Cricket News Update
India’s former opening batsman, Aakash Chopra, believes that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 has lost the creative instinct in his captaincy and said that a leader must be flexible in his approach, if a team is to do well in competitive cricket.
Dhoni was appointed as the T20 skipper in 2007 for the inaugural edition of the ICC World T20 in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. The wicketkeeper/batsman impressed one and all with the sense of calmness he brought to the team, clinching the mega event
by beating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the final at Johannesburg.
The cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jharkhand-c800 was later appointed as the Indian skipper in all three formats. Dhoni led India to the number one ranking in Test cricket for the very first time in history and became one of the most successful Indian captains,
also winning the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011 at home.
However, the wicketkeeper/batsman’s captaincy has been under immense criticism in the recent past, after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. The Men in Blue failed to defend the Asia Cup 2012 and could not qualify for
the semi-finals of the just-finished ICC World T20 2012 as well.
In his article for ESPNcricinfo, the former opener praised the way Dhoni led India in his early years and said that the wicketkeeper was always prepared to gamble.
“He trusted his instincts and wasn't afraid of risk. As captain, in the World Twenty20 final in 2007, he opened the batting with the less-fancied http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joginder-Sharma-c1714 for the last over. I thought they were
brave moves in the face of adversity,” Chopra stated.
However, Chopra thinks that Dhoni’s captaincy has deteriorated over the last 12 months and has become a conventional leader, who is not willing to think out of the box.
The former cricketer added, “Unfortunately all that, though glorious, is in the past. Of late, the flexibility that was Dhoni's forte seems to have deserted him. I'm not a huge fan of a captain being too flexible, since it can betray
a lack of conviction, but rigidity isn't good either, for that stems from arrogance.”
