MS Dhoni satisfied with his team’s performance on the Sri Lankan tour so far – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, but admitted that his young batsmen need to enhance their ability
of coping with the middle-overs.
The Men in Blue performed well in the first match and defeated the home team by 21 runs, courtesy extra-ordinary innings by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739. However, the visitors failed to replicate their showing in the second encounter
at the same venue (Hambantota), and their batting line-up fell like a house of cards, to be dismissed for merely 138 runs in only the 34th over of the innings.
Some of the sport’s pundits have slammed the Indian batting performance after the second match and feel that Dhoni’s men need to raise the bar, especially while playing in bowling friendly conditions.
The Indian skipper however, looks unfazed and believes that his side has so far done well on the Island. He admitted that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 looked an inferior team in the second match but expressed that the strong wind in Hambantota did not help
the visitors.
"The boys adjusted well to the conditions whether it was the bowling or the batting department. Today the performance wasn't so good but still, the kind of wind we faced here was the kind that one usually gets to see in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754," Dhoni said.
With the scores level at 1-1, the onus is on the Indian team to bounce back in the remainder of the competition to snatch the series, which they started off as favourites.
In the absence of some of the senior players, Dhoni hopes that the youngsters will continue to improve, especially their ability to keep the score board moving in the middle overs, without losing too many wickets.
The wicketkeeper said, "Slowly and gradually you will see all the youngsters learning, especially about the importance of the middle overs, because that is where most of the cricket is played - right from the 15th-20th over, onwards
till the 40th over."
The third match of the series will be played at Colombo on July 28th.
