MS Dhoni uncertain about Yuvraj Singh’s fitness – Cricket News Update
While commenting on Yuvraj Singh’s chances to find a place in the Test team for the series against England, India’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, has expressed that Test cricket demands much more from a player than the limited-over
formats but feels that the left-handed batsman is the best judge of his health.
The stylish batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 remained out of international cricket for almost a year due to cancer, which kept him out of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. The all-rounder returned to the fold during the
recently-concluded T20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012, where he impressed with both bat and ball.
The hard-hitting batsman did his chances a world of good by smashing a double century against Central Zone on his first-class return representing North Zone. Yuvraj also smacked an impressive half-century against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the on-going
tour game at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820.
On current form, the left-handed batsman can easily find a place in India’s Test team but there are some question marks over his fitness, which is still a little vulnerable for the five-day format.
When asked about Yuvraj’s possible return to the longer format of the game, Dhoni mentioned that playing limited-over versions and taking part in Test cricket are different ball games, as the latter tests the mental as well as the physical
strength of a player. Whether the all-rounder can survive the challenges posed by the 5-day format or not, remain to be seen in the wicketkeeper/batsman’s opinion.
"It is very difficult for me to comment on his [Yuvraj's] fitness sitting over here," Dhoni said. "We have to understand that the five-day format has its own uncertainties, unlike ODIs or T20s. In ODIs, you know that you have to field
for 50 overs only, while in Test cricket there may be a situation that a team might bat for one-and-a-half to two days. We have to assess whether Yuvraj is ready to field for two days."
"Having said that, it is Yuvraj who is the best judge about how he is feeling," the Indian skipper continued.
The first Test starts on November 15, at Ahmedabad.
