MS Dhoni urges http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 to perform – Cricket News Update
Indian Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, is not happy with the form of Gautam Gambir in Test match cricket, and has urged his opener to start scoring runs, or he might find himself outside of the Indian Test setup.
Gambir made his last Test match hundred 17 matches ago against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. Since then his form has been patchy, and neutral cricket experts are predicting that the batsman could be shown the door if he does not a hit purple in the current Border – Gavaskar
series.
The 4 match Test series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 batsman has also lessened his public appearances, in fear
of being condemned.
In the recently concluded opening Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Gambhir made a dismal 3 and 13 runs in the two innings. Along with fellow opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739, he failed to give his team a good start. This has sent alarm bells ringing
for the Indian Captain and Selector, as they lost the first match by 122 runs.
Speaking to the media today, Dhoni said, “He's someone who is batting really well in the nets. He just needs to take that extra step and do the same thing into the middle. Once you play 30-40 deliveries as an opener, everything is sorted out.”
At the start of his career, Gambir was a promising batsman who ignited comparisons to the great http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Manohar-Gavaskar-c91863, and Sehwag likened him to the reincarnated soul of Gavaskar.
At that time http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HA-Varaiya-c1520 said, “Gambhir is the only opener I have known who is at ease in any form of the game. Gavaskar was a great opener in Tests and one-dayers and Gambhir has adapted wonderfully to the Twenty20 format too. He is just too good.”
Even though his Test form is patchy, Gambir is a great batsman in the limited-over formats of the game. In the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he was one of the most highly paid cricketers of the tournament.
