MSU quarterback Kirk Cousins visits Denver Broncos, calls Peyton Manning a "rock star" - NFL News
The 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft is just days away and rookie talents are being invited to visit team facilities and meet with the management as teams weigh potential picks ahead of the big day.
Quarterbacks seem high on the agenda for many franchises and the Denver Broncos are no different even though they signed four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) Peyton Manning in the free agency and also picked up Chicago Bears backup quarterback, Caleb Hanie.
The Broncos on Tuesday were visited by Michigan State University quarterback, Kirk Cousins who got a tour of the facility and met the legendary Manning himself.
Cousins talking to the media on Wednesday said that he just said a quick “hi” to Manning and did not want to bother him too much.
"Just quickly said hello to him yesterday at the training facility. That was it. He's kind of a rock star, so I didn't want to bother him."
The quarterback was asked where he ranked himself in relation to other quarterbacks who are available in the draft.
"I think it's pretty clear you've got Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III. I think Ryan Tannehill and Brandon Weeden should be in there and then I put myself in there."
The youngster also added.
"It's hard to say. I think we all throw the ball pretty well. We're all hard workers. We're all smart guys. I think there's more similarities there than differences."
Denver would be looking for a backup quarterback in this year’s drafts who can come in and learn the tricks of the trade from Peyton Manning.
The veteran quarterback is 36-years-old and given his health problems a young protégé to learn from the elder statesman will be a great opportunity for the franchise to build for the future.
Denver are aiming high in the new season and with Manning’s accurate throws replacing the erratic passing of former quarterback, Tim Tebow at the franchise, the team is looking towards the playoffs from the start and even believe that they can go all the
way this season.
If Manning can remain healthy for the entirety of the season there can be little doubt that the Broncos will be a force to contend with.
