Question:

MTG How to use the land card Vivid Crag?

Here is what the card does...

"Card text: Vivid Crag comes into play tapped with two charge counters on it.

Tap: Add R to your mana pool.

Tap, Remove a charge counter from Vivid Crag: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool."

If I use this card do I have to choose which option I'm going to use?

or

Do both options get used when I tap the card?

or

is it all up to me whether I use only one, or both options?

thanks

  1. The first choice.

When you are going to tap a source for mana (whether it be an artifact, creature, land, or whatever), you have to announce or somehow make known what kind of mana you want the source to produce. In this case, you have to pick one - either red mana only or a specific color granted you have charge counters remaining - and pick that one only for that certain activation.

In short, you only get to choose one. No simultaneous activations are possible.

  2. When you tap this land you can either add R to your mana pool or remove a charge counter and add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Like any other land you can only tap it once each turn (unless you have some spell on it or something). So, every time you tap the land you choose one of the options. You cannot do both options when you tap it. And you can only do the second option twice because it only has two charge counters on it.

  3. You only get to use one, and you have to say what your going to use.
