MTG: Magic the Gathering. Dual efficiency wizards and merfolk?

Okay so I have a Stonybrook Banneret in play which makes Merfolk and Wizards cost 1 less to play. So, if I had a creature that was both a Merfolk and a Wizard like Wanderwine Prophets would it only cost 2UU or would I have to choose between it being a Wizard or a Merfolk when cast? Also if I had two Stonybrook Banneret in play would that Wanderwine Prophet only cost me UU???

  1. what u on about

  2. The cost of the prophets is actually 2UU, because although the banneret reduces costs for both wizard and merfolk spells, it doesn't reduce it for both. Because the Prophets are both a wizard and a merfolk doesn't mean that it gets "dual efficiency."

If it was Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, then it would be a different case altogether, because white and blue spells would be reduced by 2. However, in your case, the prophets will only cost one less for each banneret in play.

    Hope that helped!

  3. Stonybrook Banneret drops the coverted cost of wizards and merfolk.  That being said, if the wording were along the lines of "Merfolk you play cost 1 less colorless and Wizard spells you play are also 1 less colorless", the yes your Prophet would only be two Blue however, Stonybrook doesn't say that therefore you would need two Stonybrook to have it cost two blue.

  4. Stonybrook Banneret only reduces merfolk and wizard spells by 1 even if they are a merfolk and wizard type.

And you would need all 4 Stonybrook Bannerets to have Wanderwine Prophets cost UU

  5. nope, it can only reduce the cost by 1 even if it has both creature types (however if you have more than 1 Banneret it can be reduced more)

if you look at the link you provided for the image of the card of Banneret, you will notice at the bottom there is a box that says "official rulings" in this box it explains what i said above.

  6. If you only have 1 Banneret the Prophets will only be reduced by 1.  The reason behind this is, the banneret will only affect the cost once, even though it is both a merfolk and a wizard.  The ability is all on one sentence.  So it will only happen once.  If you look at Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, it reduces a spell that is both white and blue by 2 because they are on seperate sentences, so the white effect will hit, then the blue effect.

If you have 2 bannerets in play, it will reduce the prophets by 2, not 4.

  7. no because stoneybrook banneret only reduces any card with merfolk and wizard creature types by one colorless although having two out will reduce it by two colorless
