  1. you just gotta belive in the heart of the cards

  2. Since you've seen the manaless Ichorid decks, there are other versions which run Platinum Angel as a Dread Return target and alternate win. You can go to www.mtgthesource.com/forums and look for the Legacy equivalent of Ichorid. It runs a few manasources, but it's easy enough to get a Platinum into play on turn 3 without spending a single mana.

  3. You will ALWAYS need mana, it just depends on how much and of what type.  Some artifacts will produce mana, so you won't have to use as much lands and some artifacts can produce extra mana for the cost.

Coalition Relic is a way to get 2 mana of any color out and cost 3 generic mana.  Get more than one Relic out and there is 4 of your mana and the original 3 to get out the first, you should have the 7 mana for the Angel.  Another option is creatures that put other creatures into play from your hand.  Elvish Piper is an example.  He costs 3G for a 1/1, but if he survives, his ability says to pay G and tap him to put a creature from your hand directly into play.  Another way that is cheap is to get the angel into the graveyard and either play something like Dread Return, Resurrect, Vigor Mortis, or Zombify and bring the angel back to the field directly also.

There are many ways to get a creature in play, it's keeping the creature in play that is the problem as there are so many ways to remove a creature, so I hope I helped with the first half of your problem.

  4. I have seen a red spirit, myr, and goblin deck run without any land.  I must say it was truly epic to see it run the way it did.  Skirk Prospecter, the red mana producing myr and the green mana myr, and fertuctity.
