The 2011 MTS Super-Spike Ten proved to be a huge success this year as the event wrapped up this past weekend in Manitoba, Winnipeg and completed its run from July 15 to 17.
The MTS Super-Spike Ten event is an outdoor beach volleyball event which offers a great chance for local youngsters to showcase their skills and enjoy the limelight. The famed Maple Grove Rugby Park provided the ground for the competition and facilitated teams and other participants of the event.
The very prominent feature of the MTS Super-Spike is the sole support of the Women’s National Volleyball Team of Canada. The money earned during the event is dedicated to the development of Winnipeg based National Team of Canada. This year, MTS Super-Spike raised a record amount of $115,000, which is comparatively higher than the previous years. The old records were promptly thrashed this time as a total of $67, 000 was raised in the previous edition of the MTS Super-Spike Tournament. This year, MTS Super-Spike has become Canadian National Volleyball Team’s biggest annual fundraiser of all time.
The number of teams improved this year from 217 to 278 and since it was straight 10th year of MTS Super-Spike, a wide range of people attended the event. To keep the audience entertained, musical performances by different local bands were also part of the activity. A new Masters Volleyball Division for senior players was also introduced at the 2011 MTS Super-spike.
Bud Light was attached with the event as a major sponsor. They gave away a lot of tempting prizes to participants of the event including a trip for two to UFC’s battle in New Orleans.
Greg Paseshnik, the event General Manager of MTS Super-Spike, was more than happy about the success. He commented, "Super-Spike has again lived up to its track record of being one of the best annual events that Winnipeg has to offer. We are thrilled with the event’s growth and record registration numbers again this year, and most importantly with the large amount of money we were able to bring in to support our National Women’s Team."
The Director of Operations for Women’s National Volleyball Team of Canada, John Blacher, appreciated the efforts of the organisers of MTS Super-Spike. Moreover, he thanked everyone who became the part of this campaign. He said that funds raised through this event will surely play a great role in creating more competitive opportunities for the national team.
