Question:

MTS issues???

I have an abundance of malaysian trumpet snails in one of my freshwater tanks. I also have mystery snails. I want to keep the mystery snails, but get rid of the MTS. If I put java loaches in the tank, will it kill the mts and leave the mystery snails alone?

If not, any ideas on how I can fix this issue. These things are starting to take over my tank.

  1. Java Loaches are almost incapable of eating snails, mostly due to their soft, fleshy mouths and bodies, as opposed to something like a Yoyo Loach, which is pretty solid.  In reality, very few fish will eat Malaysian Trumpet Snails.  The best course of action might be to remove all the fish, the Mystery Snail, and the filter media (check it for snails), then basically overdose with copper (Coppersafe, Aquarisol, Cupramine, Organicure) in the main tank-- this will kill the snails, but all the desirable organisms will be in safety in a quarantine tank/bucket with the filter.
