I posted this on a forum earlier but no answers were obtained so I would like to see what everyone else thinks.

I want to upgrade my system a step or two. Found a good deal on a 2.5 cube box and two MTX 4500 12s, upgrading from (2) 12" XPLODS. For about 200 the guy will sell the box and the subs along with wiring it. Is it worth it? I was thinking about a whole new alpine system but ive really been wanting to make my car into a true sleeper so im devoting my money to that. BTW it'll be running off a Sony XM2002GTR.

Its all going into a camaro btw

  1. go wit alpine they make better stuff and more top notch

    dnt go wit sony anything

  2. if it was me, i would first make sure what ohm load those subwoofers come, and the amount of voice coils. because if the amp cannot handle them or is not stable... why bother.

those subs came with a 4 ohm dvc and 4 ohm svc... so check into that and see if the wiring will be good for your amp.

and about the box, i would rather take a look at it. if it was poorly made... dont even bother. or if its ported and the guy doesnt know what tuning the box has..... dont bother.

if the enclose is sealed, then the cubic feet is ok.

but if the box is ported... then its way too small. it should atleast be 4 cubic feet internal vol., and i would recommend you a tuning of 32 Hz to be louder than a sealed box and still have good sound quality.  if you want to be a bit louder but loose the SQ, then go with 33~38Hz.

finally... make sure the subs are not blown or have bad coils... dont get ur eyes poked dude.

  3. My friend used to have MTX subs and while the sound quality isn't amazing they will make plenty of noise.  All depends if you lean towards SQ or SPL.  I'm no big fan of Xplods personally and $200 for subs/box/wiring for the MTX's seems like a decent deal.  I would try to hear some MTX subs first though too determine if you want that kind of sound.
