MVP - The only Basketball Magazine in United Kingdom effectively promoting the British Basketball League
Back in October 2010, the innovative basketball magazine MVP was launched in UK to promote basketball. Although at first, many people thought that the magazine would not be able to influence many readers due to relative lack of
popularity of basketball in the country, but contrary to expectations, MVP is delighting its fans all across UK and has just released its third edition. It is the only magazine in United Kingdom that has dedicated to pay full coverage of basketball.
MVP is a quarterly journal that has in-depth analysis on basketball. Comprising of exclusive features and interviews, written by some of the top professionals on both side of the Atlantic, MVP is fast emerging to be a sensation.
Ranging from NBA’s international stars to British league’s upcoming youngsters, this magazine is covering some of the finest names in the sports.
Greg Tanner, who is considered as the highest ranked editor in UK is presently heading the MVP venture. Stating the purpose behind the magazine, he said.
“We want to provide a stylish, quality product that will stand out on the shelves and appeal to basketball fans in the UK as well as abroad. Our mission is for MVP to feature some of the best writing around, as well as showcasing
the greatest photography. And we believe it offers advertisers a perfect outlet to target the young urban market – as well as the wider basketball community”.
Having published three successful editions in October, January and April, the fourth issue of this magazine will be coming in July. The magazine includes its own website as well and since its launch on internet, approximately 100,000
fans have been attracted.
The British Basketball League is also benefiting from this journal massively. The British Basketball league (BBL) was established in 1980; however it is still in its evolving process and needs a boost from the print media. The
British league currently has 12 teams representing both Scotland and England. These teams compete on Knockout bases, but the relegation and promotion method is yet to be introduced in this league.
The regular season runs through October to April. Each team can only import three foreign players from outside the European Union. The trading of players and new signing are made before the deadline (28thFebruary). The
league has also introduced several awards to motivate its players and coaches. In addition to BBL’s Most Valuable player, BBL’s Finals Most Valuable Player, BBL Coach of the Year and BBL All Star Team has enhanced its appeal in huge numbers.
With the London Olympics coming up in 2012, the hopes of basketball’s popularity are even high as it would add a new dimension to the hoops game into the football crazy nation.
