MVW to VHS?

I have my surivor application video in WMV format using Microsoft Movie Maker. I am unable to convert it to VHS cassette tape. I burned it to a DVD, the DVD would not read in my player. The player is brand new. I thought I could dub from DVD to VHS. I tried hooking my laptop to the DVD/VCR via S-Video cable, that did not work either. I'm at my wits end. Does anybody have any idea how I can do this? If not, I will send it to a friend who said he would perform the service for me for a fee. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. If the DVD read fine in the recorder you have one of two problems.

    1.  Disc is a DVD+R or DVD-R and you forgot to finalize it making it compatible with all compatible players for the media.

    2.  You did finalize but the WMV movie is displayed in a format your DVD player cannot play.  DVD-Video discs must comply with certain file sizes and formatting issues which DVD discs on computers need not comply with.  I once found an article on the Internet that gave the size of a title on a DVD-video disc.  I found that if I limited my camcorder captures to three separate 15 minute captures for a total of 45 minutes it worked with Nero Burning CD ROM and my DVD recorder.  But then I switched to the stand alone DVD+VR recorder and avoided the whole process.  That won't work for your WMV files but maybe the size warning will help.  Actually what i need is better software and that is what I recommend for you DVD video authoring software that works.  Ask about that in the Computers and Internet section.
