MXL 990 has really low output

Question

I have a MXL 990 and hadn't used it for some time. I brought it out to try on some vocals the other day and it had a really poor output. You had to sit right on top of it to get any signal. I thought it might be a phantom power problem but when I turned that off it didn't work at all. Any ideas. I did use it some time ago for guitars so I'm thinking maybe I blew the diaphram. But I've done that before with no ill results.
