  1. It must be leaking.

  2. if the water is going very fast its the liner leaking.

No worries. All home improvement stores have patches for liners that u can use to repair but the only drawback is that u have to remove the fish, the pump and the stones to do any repairs. good luck

  3. The fish are drinking the water.

  4. There are many sources for leakage.

I've noticed that on very windy days my water line drops.

The first thing I would check is the hoses/connectors unless of course you have PVC line then check those.  I have found that usually if I have a fast leak it's at the connection to the components of the pond  where the hoses meet the connector it sometimes splits.

If you have a waterfall then check that for leaks in and around the rocks.  If you find one use the black waterfall foam.  It's not a bad idea to reinforce that anyway.

And they do make liner patches, check everyday to see just were the waterline drops to and then that will be the source of the leak at that level.  Nine out of ten (9/10)  times it's NOT the liner.  I myself invested in the DuPont Tetra Xavan Liner.

It's is much stronger and lighter in weight and you don't even have to use a underlayment liner.

    Good Luck!

  5. Evaporation is a factor at this time of year. The sun and wind have an amazingly quick effect - we have to top up our pond about once every 10 days in the summer, more often if it's really hot. Even if it is a leak, the rate of loss is negligible and can be compensated by topping up, but it is almost certainly not.
