  1. no worries sound card problems are rare but no so worst that u will have to replace the whole sound card ...

do one thing first check in the ctrl panel sound devices and sound options check if any thing is muted or on low

next plug in u r speaker's input in to blue color port of three available..

if all above have nt worked out better go for a pci sound card now

    prefer

    ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-E Sound Card(around-1200rs)

    or

Creative Labs Sound Blaster XFi PCI Sound Card(around1200-1300)

the above mentioned cards have an edge over built in sound cards as they support up to 7.1 surround and the sound effect would be loud!!!! rocking !!clear!!!!! amazing

    or

simple use a usb sound card costs upto 450 its plug and play no softwares or drivers required

using a new sound card on pci will automatically disable the one on board

  2. Nope. Your motherboard is still fine.

You'll just have to buy a dauther board (a PCI card sound card)

You can buy it cheap for $10-30 and the expensive ones have better sound quality.

Also. Try to check your BIOS it might be disabled there or the sound is just on mute.

  3. Go to settings/control panel/system/device manager

and delete the sound device and shut down.  Reboot

and you should get the message "new device found" see

if windows can install it from the windows files.

If it is not there you will have to eownload the driver and install it manually.

  4. In XP, right click on My Computer and select Properties.  Click on the Hardware tab and then click on Device Manager button.

In Vista, right click on Computer and select Properties.  Click on the top left on the Device Manager link.

Look under the Sound area for a device.  If there are no devices then the sound device needs a driver. Find your motherboard's installation disk or download the drivers from your motherboard site for the sound device.  If you have a device listed in the Sound area, look for any exclamation marks.  An exclamation means the driver for the device didn't load properly.  Download the correct drivers for the motherboard and install them.

If there are no exclamations then the driver is loaded correctly.  Make sure the sound volume is turned up in the Sound control panel.  For Vista, look for the Sound device in the Playback tab of the Sound control panel.  It should have a green check saying that the device is working. If it isn't, get the correct driver.  If it is, click on the device and select Configure.  Select the Stereo option and plug headphones into the Green sound connector on the back of the motherboard.  Click TEST on the Configure window to hear test sounds.  You should hear three tones progressing downwards.  If you have 4 speakers, connect them to your computer and select Quadraphonic then click Test.  You should hear the right and left front and rear speakers each with three tones going down and up.  If your speakers are 5.1, connect them and select 5.1 then  test.

In XP, open the Sound and Audio Devices control panel. Be sure the MUTE button is not selected. Click on the Advanced button and select desktop and stereo speakers with headphones plugged into the motherboard in the green connector. Click OK then click the Sounds Tab and click on Critical Stop in the Program Events box. Click on the test arrow to the left of the Browse button to test for sound. If that works, connect your speakers to the computer and select the proper speaker type in the Advanced button from the Volume tab
